Programme Objectives:

Participants will develop skills in managing time at work, in order to increase personal performance and effectiveness. Be able to identify areas where time could be managed better. Develop action plans for achievement. Learn how to communicate with all levels of people in a work environment in an effective manner. Develop improved skills in handling a range of difficult people-interactions with an assertive and confident approach.

The programme is designed for any individual who wishes to improve their time management along with their interpersonal skills, in order to achieve the objectives of their work and life roles.

Managing Time

  • Importance of time as a valuable resource
  • Characteristics of time, and potential for time loss
  • Key time waste factors at work & how to tackle them effectively
  • Managing stress factors at work – symptoms, causes and solutions

Use of Time

  • The time planning process – short, medium and long term
  • Setting objectives and priorities
  • Developing and using time logs
  • Use of diaries and practical day planners

Workplace Organisation

  • Desk and file management
  • Determining levels of accessibility & managing interruptions
  • Basic principles for desk organisation and layout
  • Handling modern electronic media for reduction of time wasting

Group Interaction Exercise

  • With feedback and discussion on key aspects of personal effectiveness including concepts of effectiveness and efficiency

Objective Setting and Action Planning

  • Defining personal & career goals
  • Identifying SMART objectives
  • Developing appropriate plans and timescales to achieve objectives
  • Principles of effective action planning including prioritising
  • Implementation and control of action plans
  • Milestones, reviews and evaluation

Personal Communications Effectiveness

  • Principles of interpersonal communications
  • Basic model of communications – roles of sender and receiver
  • Methods of communication including spoken word, written word, visuals and body language
  • Managing and reading body language
  • Active listening and feedback techniques
  • Developing improved communications techniques in the work environment including – participation at meetings and email communication

Being creative and proactive in the workplace

  • Techniques for creative thinking and innovation
  • Focus on continuous improvement in individual and team performance

 Interpersonal Skills

  • Developing self-motivation and self-confidence: Building self esteem
  • Assertiveness in interacting with others
  • Effective interpersonal skills including handling and resolving conflict and aggression using appropriate response behaviours and Transactional Analysis techniques
  • Interactive and influencing skills with personal profiling and practical related exercises – Interactive Style analysis and feedback
  • Handling the process of both giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner
